Enum - ConsumptionUsageType
Key: enum.consumptionUsageType
Classifies what a buildingCalculatedConsumption row represents. Modelled as an open, editable lookup table (not a fixed enum) — processing is identical regardless of the specific usage type. Additional values (lighting, ventilation, cooking, unassignable consumption, …) are expected.
Decided 2026-09-23: this becomes a platform-level lookup table, not a compile-time enum, and it carries a binding to the medium — which values are offered for which meter type. In EM3 origin/main @ b6943640a it exists only as a frontend union ['heating','hotWater','other','production'] and as a CHECK on building_calculated_consumption.usage_type; adding a value therefore needs a code change and a schema migration today. The building_calculated_consumption.usageType attribute stays — that calculation needs it and is an independent input.
Superseded on gauges (5 Oct 2026): a channel's usage is no longer this enum but an allocation over the platform catalogue usageType (full set: heating, hotWater, cooling, ventilation, lighting, baseLoad, cooking, evCharging, transport, sanitary, processWater, irrigation, other). This enum stays for buildingCalculatedConsumption.usageType until that calculation is re-based on the catalogue.
Where each value is offered (following EM2 ConsumptionUsage::$consumptionChoicesByType): electricity meter, gas meter, heat meter and fuel meter yes; water meter, vehicle fuel and KVP no. production stays in the list for buildingCalculatedConsumption but is not offered on a gauge — what a channel measures is its purpose.
Values
| Value | Applicable medium(s) | Description |
|---|---|---|
heating | heat, gas, electricity | Space heating consumption. |
hotWater | heat, gas, electricity | Domestic hot water heating. |
other | gas, electricity, water | Consumption not attributable to heating/hot water (e.g. general electricity use). |
production | electricity | Energy production (FVE / photovoltaic). Separate domain, own input section and own charts. |
